Preliminary Lee and Miller Bare Bones MarsCon Schedule

As mentioned Elsewhere, Steve and I will be Writer Guests of Honor at MarsCon in Minneapolis next weekend.  I know some folks will be coming in from Far Places (Alaska!), and some will be attending their first con, or their first con in years.  Below, is a quick idea of what we’ll be doing when at the con.   Because this is not the final schedule, not all of the panelists are sorted, yet, so I’ve just noted which of us will be on each.

REMEMBER:  This is not the final schedule.  You will get a final schedule in your registration packet at the convention.

This is Very Important: Steve and I will be hosting a Stuffed Animal Tea (aka a Teddy Bear Tea) on Saturday at, err, tea time — 5:00-5:50.  Do plan on escorting your stuffed animal to tea.

Also!  We will be hosting the Friends of Liad breakfast at 9:00 Saturday morning in the hotel restaurant.  For those for whom this is a new thing:  The Friends of Liad Breakfast is, basically, just a bunch of the family getting together for breakfast, to share gossip and clan news and basically catch up with each other.  Each person must come prepared to pay for their own breakfast, just like Steve and I will be paying for our breakfasts.  Looking forward to seeing all you early risers there!

Friday

4:00-4:50pm, Krushenko’s. Panel: Psi Powers. Sharon Lee, Steve Miller
7:00 p.m.-, Mainstage. Opening  Ceremonies.  Sharon and Steve, and a Cast of Thousands

Adventures in the Liaden Universe® Number 23

Change Management:  Adventures in the Liaden Universe® Number 23, has been uploaded and is publishing (in the case of Amazon, has published) to Amazon, Baen ebooks, BN/Nook, Kobo, iBooks, 24Symbols, Page Foundry, Scribd, and Tolino, so expect to be able to purchase it from those vendors within the next 72 hours or so.

Here’s the blurb for the book:

Times are perilous, violence rife, and the future uncertain. Success and the survival of all you hold dear may hinge on how you manage change.

Some people advise that we “Embrace Change!” Other people realize that change has edges, and if you embrace it the wrong way, it may feel a lot more like a knife than a bromide when it touches your guts.

Here are two Lee and Miller stories set in the Liaden Universe®, “Street Cred,” original to this chapbook; and “Wise Child,” reprinted from Baen.com. Both stories deal with the complications arising from decisive change, and decisive Change Management at the point of peril.

Tuesday evening Book Report

ONE

Uncle Hugo is now accepting pre-orders for signed and/or personalized copies of The Gathering Edge, the 20th novel of the Liaden Universe® created by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller many, many years ago when they should have been doing more productive things.  Instructions are at the link.  It will help you to recall going in that “personalization” means “In addition to their names, the authors will write something you have specifically requested that they write in your book.”  It is also well to remember that the authors reserve the right to NOT include a particular personalization if it offendeth them for any reason. There is no appeal from the authors’ judgment in this.

Pre-orders for personalizations will be taken until April 1.

This is your link to pre-order signed and/or personalized copies from Uncle Hugo.

TWO

It is a fact little realized that Agent of Change, the very first Liaden novel written, was published as a Paperback Original by Del Rey Books in 1988.  It was followed, latter in 1988, and in late 1989 by Conflict of Honors and Carpe Diem, also Paperback Originals.

This is important for a couple of reasons.

First! Publication in 1988 means that! in 2018, the Liaden Universe® will be 30 years old.

Second! In all that time, and through all the various shufflings and republishings of the various Liaden novels the first three have never been published as single hardcovers.

Third! Baen will be celebrating Thirty Years of Liad starting with a hardcover reprinting — the very first hardcover printing! — of Agent of Change in the spring of 2018, with Conflict and Carpe to follow.

Watch the skies for more details.

THREE

We are finishing up the 23rd Adventure in the Liaden Universe® echapbook, Change Management, including reprint “Wise Child,” and original-to-this-chapbook “Street Cred,” plus an About This Book by the authors.  It will be available from The Usual Suspects before the first of March.  We of course, shout from the rooftops and dance in the streets when it is published.

FOUR

The eArc of The Gathering Edge is now available from Baen ebooks, and only from Baen ebooks.  Frequent visitors to this blog will recall that there is a three-way wager regarding the eArc going on, between Belle, Sprite, and me.  Here are the particulars.  The eArc will be available until and only until, the hardcover goes on sale, in May.

Here’s your link to The Gathering Edge eArc.

. . .here endeth the Tuesday Evening Book Report.

Writing from the month of the Staggering Behemoths

My thanks to everyone who put eyes on the Amazon situation.  Many noted that the links to Steve’s author page are missing/broken/go somewhere else — that will be my next Amazon-related project, whereupon I will once again ask for your assistance.  Thank you so very much being here, and being willing and able to assist us as we navigate the Silly Waters of Freelance.

This morning, lest I forget, there was a reprint contract in the mail.  Totally unexpected, but of course Delightful To Behold.

I am in the meantime, making a story from an outtake from Neogenesis.  The title is “Street Cred,” and it is destined for a new eChapbook, which I hope to have on-sale before we leave for MarsCon.  This morning, it weighs in at about 7,500 words, out of what I estimate to be about 10,000 words, finished.  With luck I can finish the draft this evening.

Today, Steve is wanted at the dentist, and I’ll do some errands in town while that work is being done.  Sunday is forecast to be sunny and warm; our goal at This Point in Time is to take a nice long drive on Sunday, partly in order to assuage cabin fever, and partly to see if I can do a nice long drive all in one go, in prep for driving to Albany, and getting on a train for Minneapolis.

Let’s see, what else?  Oh, our mailbox here at the house fell victim to Winter, the first time in many winters, so All Mail must presently be picked up at the post office in Waterville.  Today, I expect to pick up a sweatshirt, and a DVD, along with the usual handful of bills and sales flyers.  I’ve really been looking forward to the sweatshirt, and honestly didn’t expect the DVD to make it to us so quickly, which just goes to show that when you order something called “Arrival,” it’ll try to live up to its name.

. . .and I think that’s all I’ve got.

Everybody stay safe, and warm.

In Which the Author Needs Eyes On, Please

For those who have been following the Case of the Disappearing Books, it seems that, what with One Thing and That Other One Over There, books — even books which are properly our books — have been re-accounted to my Amazon bibliography.

And it is now that I would ask those who have a few minutes to help me out.

It would be a Very Good Thing Indeed to have as many eyes as possible scrutinizing the catalog pages for our various titles to (1) be sure that the link to the Sharon Lee Author Page is, in fact, on that page, (2) that the link actually goes to the proper Sharon Lee Author Page, and! (3) that the Author Page displays Proper Lee-and-Miller, and Lee, titles.

If you find a catalog page that does not have the Author Page link, would you leave a link to that page in comments, please.

Thank you very much for all you do.
