Watch the Skies!

Due Diligence: Adventures in the Liaden Universe® Number 24 has been published to the Usual Suspects (including but not limited to: Baen ebooks, Kobo, BN, Apple, Amazon) and will be available for sale as the Various Ghods of Indie Publishing will.

Here’s the teaser:

When Clan Korval knows your name. . .

Abandoned on a strange port by a scam gone bad, his license to pilot rescinded, and his pockets very much to let, Fer Gun pen’Uldra was teetering between trouble, more trouble, and bad trouble. Cornered in a cheap bar by a too-knowledgeable stranger with an unlikely offer, Fer Gun realized having no money and no license might be the least of his troubles. Clan Korval knew his name and that proposal was hard to refuse. . .

  1. I don’t seem to find it on Baen yet, will keep trying. Looking forward to it! 🙂

  2. Bought it last night and alerted my daughter as well so she probably got it too…and if not last night, today for sure. FYI, the Amazon listing shows DUE DILIGENCE as a BEST SELLER, since it’s number one in the kindle short reads ranking. Woo Hoo!

  3. I thought it was better (that is, you get more money), if we buy things from Baen. Is that true? I looked for the book on Baen but couldn’t find it.

    Thanks!

  4. Baen takes awhile, because they’re staffed by Real Humans, and also because we — in this case meaning Pinbeam Books, which is our “indie” imprint — do not have an orderly, quarterly, publication schedule. We just put out chapbooks at random. So, on top of everything else that normally afflicts Real Humans, the Baen ebook team has to work us in around their scheduled work.

In the case of Pinbeam Books chapbooks, the distributors pay between 50% and 70% of cover, depending on who. It’s not going to make or break us, one way or the other. The important thing is that you can get a book from your preferred vendor.

In the case of Baen-published books; we get 25% of cover on our ebooks; it doesn’t matter who you buy them from.

  5. Will this eventually be gathered into a Constellation volume, or elsewhere in print? The library has several followers (including me!) of your Liaden universe, and I’d hate for them to miss this installment, but the ebook format doesn’t sit well on our shelves 😉

Apologies if I missed the print version somehow; I did look in a couple of places, but not extensively as Summer Reading Madness has hit. Oy ~

  6. Found on Barnes & Noble today! Thanks for the heads-up, I’m always happy to see you have something new out!

  7. Speaking of chap books, is there any chance we could ask you to write Sam Tim’s Bad Day? I want it for my 5 year old…

  8. You can ask; and while I try never to say “never,” this project doesn’t feel likely to put itself forward.

  9. Honestly? I don’t know. If Baen goes for a fourth Constellation, there aren’t enough stories yet, and at the rate we’re writing short stories at the moment (which is to say slllllowwwwwwy), it’ll be some time before there are sufficient new stories to fill a Constellation.
