  1. Today, January 1, I downloaded Quicken 2016 — I quit using Quicken in 2012, a couple of lifetimes ago, having moved, changed banks and even credit cards since then. In 2012 I quit using Quicken in disgust. And today I also ran into trouble as soon as I started setting it up, swore at it, huffed awhile and decided to make my own goddamn system for recording my expenditures and income — a resolve that happens annually, usually in April, though. I’m 71, solvent, humming right along, but carrying a personal financial doomsday scenario that has sat on my head since I left my parents’ home at 21. Perhaps this angst has more to do with them living through the Great Depression than it does with me trying to keep immaculate accessible intelligent records? It’s a thought.

Meanwhile, I think I’ll go for a walk and listen to some poetry. Happy 2016. 🙂

  2. Quicken makes me nuts. I’ve had to use it at various jobs, and just. . .no.

For our writer-business, I just set up regular old spreadsheets, been doing it for years, ever since we graduated from the ledger book and envelopes. We’ve just been. . .handed over. . .to a new accountant, as our regular accountant got tired of “doing it all” and found a position in a firm. New accountant seemed. . .somewhat surprised. . .to have been given an “Excel spreadsheet.” Hope this isn’t going to be a problem.

A walk and poetry sounds lovely — enjoy!
